The tragic loss of Bishop Bernard Tissier de Mallerais provides an opportunity to reflect on his life of service to the Church and his fidelity to Catholic Tradition. The virtue of fidelity that Bishop Tissier modeled is important for all Catholics, for it is nothing less than remaining true to the promises we have made and keeping them even in the face of adversity.

The books of Maccabees serves as an inspiration for Catholics today. At a time when the religion of God was being persecuted and there was a strong temptation to compromise with the powers of that day, there rose up those who refused to tarnish the faith of their ancestors and heroically defended their loyalty to God against the encroachment of paganism.

Vocations are the main Marian grace for they correspond to the mission of Our Lady. Just as Our Lady willingly gave of herself to serve God, so, too, must those called to the priesthood and religious life be willing to dedicate themselves fully to Our Lord. Through the Blessed Virgin’s example and prayers, these men and women will have the grace to persevere in their vocations.

The gesture of genuflection is a sign of reverence toward Our Lord that we find reflected Scripture. Our physical lowering of ourselves is a sign of deference and respect to the ultimate authority: God.

Throughout history, Our Lady, through apparitions, has encouraged the faithful to pray the Rosary. Why? Because she is our mother and she knows that through this prayer, we may have the strength to persevere and save our souls in Christ.

Throughout the liturgical year, we find several feasts dedicated to angels. Through these feasts, Holy Mother Church invites us to contemplate the world of the angels and their role in assisting us on the path to salvation.

Grace is the most precious gift we have, but following that is time. In the brief period we have in this life to work out our salvation, one of the most pressing matters is how we use our time well. Compared to the existence of creation, our lifespan is less than a blink of an eye, yet what we do with it has eternal consequences.

In Singapore, Pope Francis announced that all religions lead to God. We know as a matter of faith this is untrue. The only true path to God is through Christ.
