The Pope: First Among Equals, or Monarch of the Church? – Apologetics #17

On today’s episode of the SSPX Podcast, we’ll continue our Apologetics Series by looking a little deeper at the papacy with Fr. MacGillivray. Last time, we saw that Jesus set up Peter as His Vicar on earth. But what about after St. Peter? There are tons of theories about who holds authority within the Catholic Church. Is the pope one of multiple patriarchs, who need to share power? Or is he the supreme, absolute monarch of the entire Catholic Church? How can we use Scripture and Tradition to answer this?

You can find notes to all these episodes at, as well as all our previous episodes. There as well, you can find a link to help support this project. This is free to listen to, as well as all the resources we’re posting, but if you can help with a one time or a small monthly recurring donation, you’ll be making sure that we can continue this work of producing good Catholic content on a regular basis.
